Qualified candidates will have:

Hours for this position are Monday-Thursday 6:30am to 5:00pm or Tuesday-Friday 6:30am to 5:00pm. Some weekends required.
The target hourly rate for this position is $19.51 - $22.42, depending on qualifications.
Summary of Duties: Under basic supervision, the Signs and Markings Technician is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic control signs, residential signs and pavement markings, according to local, State and Federal laws and regulations.

* Installs, repairs and maintains City traffic control, residential signs and pavement markings, according to the established standards stated in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
* Monitors and maintains inventory of signs and markings materials and equipment required for daily operation.
* Prepares daily and weekly reports accounting for verbal and written work orders.
* Prioritizes daily schedules, duties, and routes.
* May lead the work activities of others.
* Ensures that conditions of the work site area are safe and clear of utility lines, and traffic is properly routed; trims trees as required to maintain sign visibility.
* Meets with transportation engineers and utility company representatives to coordinate construction activities.
* Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties:
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions: The incumbent is responsible for: ensuring operable condition of assigned equipment; placement of all signs and markings; use of safe work methods and safety equipment; and prioritizing work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Position requires working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and equipment operation and maintenance.
Skill in: Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; operating a variety of tools and equipment; taking measurements for installation of signs and markings.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in traffic control functions.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Licenses and Certifications: Texas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law).
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around streets and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, and to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Incumbent in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach while completing assigned tasks. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels and cold and hot outdoor temperatures.
