The Assistant Director of Orientation and Academic Support facilitates the communication, and programming for new and continuing CMU students. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of New Student Orientation and provides leadership for new student orientation experiences in all delivery modes. The assistant director develops and implements communication plans, along with outreach and academic support resources to foster engagement and success in the retention, progression and graduation of students. The assistant director provides leadership for Parent & Family Services, including communication to parents and supporters and organizing, planning and implementation for Parent & Family Weekend.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

One year of experience working with students in a college or university setting.

One of experience supervising staff.

Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Demonstrate organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging trends concerning the first college year and resources for students in transition.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Event and project management experience.

Demonstrate a very high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree.

Knowledge of/experience with enrollment management, college transition and/or orientation, student affairs, retention, and student development.

Experience with customer relationship management systems (CRM), workflows, and automated communication plans.

Experience with comprehensive communication and outreach plans.

Experience with web and print authoring software.

Knowledge of/experience with program evaluation, assessment of learning and/or research methodologies (qualitative and/or quantitative).

Working knowledge of CMU-related computer applications and MS Office products.

Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supports the planning, development and delivery of new student orientation programming.

Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of student mentors, orientation advisors and volunteers.

Serve as the designated back-up to the director of new student orientation.

Assist with coordination of communication plan and outreach for new student orientation.

Collaborate with campus leaders and departments in support of new student orientation and academic support programming.

Conducts evaluations to assess the effectiveness of new student programming and academic support services; prepares and disseminates orientation evaluation and assessment information.

Support the development of new student transition/orientation information, communications and other resources for distribution to students and their supporters in coordination with enrollment needs and goals.

Works with campus resources to schedule, publicize, and promote new student and academic support programming.

Conducts orientation sessions and performs duties as needed during the day, evening, and/or weekends at main campus and distance locations.

Supervise and coordinate academic support resources including tutoring and supplemental instruction in collaboration with academic colleges.

Coordinates comprehensive communication and outreach plans to support students throughout their CMU.

Review, recommend, deliver, and assess academic resources and strategies to meet student support needs and success.

Develops training and educational sessions that demonstrate evidence- based, best- practice support services for students.

Utilizes early intervention and support software to identify students experiencing transitional stressors.

Works with campus partners and liaisons to plan and execute programming for Parent & Family Services.

Creates and executes communication plans for Parent & Family Services.

Maintains a detailed record of projects including plans of work, outcomes and future enhancement recommendations where applicable and all electronic files within the office/department servers.

Uses independent judgment in the application of rules, regulations, policies and procedures. -Assistant in overseeing and maintenance of department website.

Assists with data collection and dissemination of findings concerning student persistence and success initiatives and provides relevant data and reports on activities and outcomes.

Complies with all university policies and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Demonstrates a positive, progressive approach to working with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, family members, and external constituents.
