Job Summary:
The shift supervisor is responsible and manages the day-to-day operations. Manages staffing to maintain adequate coverage and productivity. Oversees the quality of reporting in all areas of services - Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and daily operation of the Core Laboratory (Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services, and Immunology.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
* Follows all policies and procedures of the laboratory and hospital, and monitors compliance of those supervised.
* Ensures compliance with regulations, quality control and instrument maintenance.
* Assists in instrument installation, validations, and selections as needed.
* Schedules and manages technical staff for evening and night shift to ensure adequate coverage.
* Responsible for monitoring performance of staff and perform appraisals/evaluations and corrective actions as needed
* Manages phlebotomy staffing and communicates with phlebotomy supervisor issues related to specimen collection and processing.
* Assist with supply inventory maintenance.
* Regularly communicates with technical director/medical director any issues or concerns that could impact patient results.
* Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner and encourages teamwork within and outside the laboratory.
* Other duties as assigned.

* Performs responsibilities of a General Supervisor under CLIA personnel requirements.
Required Education / Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or Physical Science.
* Or, Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician with two (2) years of experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory.
* Clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician within a clinical laboratory. Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles is required.
* One (1) year of experience with high complexity testing if indicated (required for Blood Bank).
* Five (5) years' experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
* Overall knowledge of lab operations including quality control, safety and problem solving
* Knowledge of department shift operations.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Problem solving and conflict resolution.
* Previous experience in a leadership role, billing compliance, performance improvement and regulatory standards
Required Certification / Licenses:
* ASCP or equivalent required. Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment. If certification does lapse, position will be downgraded.
