Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences (DPH)Recruitment began on December 16, 2024 and the job listing expires on January 15, 2025.The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) seeks an experienced Security Team Specialist to perform a full range of assigned security and public safety duties, working in partnership with the DPH community to maintain order, protect personnel, visitors, and vendors, prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime, and improve the overall quality of life for the campus community.Please note: This position is expected to report to the office five (5) days per week. This position is 40 hours per week, with multiple shifts available. Days off to be determined. Some schedule flexibility is possible. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is required to work during campus closures to meet operational requirements.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol assigned campus buildings and adjacent areas on foot to ensure campus security.
- Guard against trespass, theft, damage to property, or injury to individuals by screening contraband and inspecting buildings and grounds for compliance with safety standards.
- Operate security equipment such as two-way radios, public address systems, emergency medical equipment, computers, and x-ray machines.
- Perform related duties such as cooperating with other agencies, notifying designated personnel of emergencies, writing activity reports, maintaining records on lost and found items, assisting in the evacuation of residents during fire drills, and administering first aid to injured persons.
- Issue and code security identification badges.
- Maintain and update daily logs.
- Write clear and articulate incident reports and supporting documents.
- Work overtime to meet mission requirements.Required Qualifications:
- Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
- Capacity to interact with people under physical and/or emotional stress.
- Skill to maintain a calm manner in stressful and emergency situations.
- Potential to make decisions and act quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
- Capability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to establish rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural, and/or economic backgrounds.
- Ability to assist in transporting heavy objects or persons.
- Physical stamina and ability to work outside during inclement weather.Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior security or law enforcement experience.
- CPR Certified, First Aid, or First Responder training.
- Able to solve problems and deconflict situations and information.
- Ability to interact with the campus community in a positive and professional manner.
- Talent for recognizing the cultural diversity of the campus community and ensuring sensitive and equitable treatment of all who work and visit the campus.Minimum Entrance Requirements:None.Special Requirements:Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
