Description:To support dental clinic operations by providing comprehensive oral care within the scope of licensure including, but not limited to polishing, scaling and root planing, intraoral examination, and oral hygiene instruction; to work in conjunction with dental assistants and dentists to complete intraoral x-rays, documentation of existing conditions and treatment plans, and ensure warm hand off to dental scheduling team.Requirements:The Minimum Qualifications:- Completion of an accredited dental hygienist program required.- Active Idaho dental hygienist license required.- BLS certification required.- Must be able to secure credentialing through identified agencies.- Effective oral and written communication skills required.- 1 year of work experience as a dental hygienist preferred.- Previous experience working with under-served population preferred.Your Essential Duties:- Remove tartar, stains, and plaque from teeth.- Perform scaling, root planing, and selective polishing for patients as diagnosed by dentist.- Apply and administer local anesthetic agents as needed.- Administer fluoride treatment as needed.- Apply sealants to help protect teeth.- Take diagnostic x-rays to determine extent of any decay and disease.- Document areas of existing restorations, enter and treatment plan decay and other pathoses as diagnosed by dentist.- Update medical history of patient, highlighting significant information for dentist's review.- Instruct patients on oral hygiene technique, answering patient questions, and providing other educational information relevant to oral hygiene.- Practice universal precautions and follow infection control procedures.- Assist in maintaining instruments and equipment.- Ensure accurate patient documentation including, but not limited to health history, consent forms, and referrals.- Assist Dental Sterilization Technician, Dental Assistants, and Dentists as needed.- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to coordinate with patient's medical providers.- Maintain familiarity of and comply with all Heritage Health policies and procedures, OSHA, HIPAA, and state regulations.- Attend and actively participate in all required meetings and in-services.- Promote positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, dentists, and patients.- Able and willing to help dentist with anesthesia.- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and promotes teamwork.- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
