The job of Small School Secretary (under 300 ADA) is done for the purpose/s of providing clerical support to school administrative functions; conveying information regarding school and/or District functions and procedures; and ensuring compliance with financial, legal and administrative requirements of assigned areas.
Essential Job Functions:
* Supports assigned administrative school personnel for the purpose of providing assistance to their administrative functions.
* Prepares written materials (e.g., brochures, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and/or district functions and procedures.
* Composes documents (e.g., correspondence, agendas, minutes, reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to school and district personnel, the public, state officials, etc.
* Monitors assigned activities, programs and/or budgets for the purpose of adhering to critical timelines and ensuring compliance with financial, legal and/or district requirements.
* Processes documents and materials (e.g., schedules, agendas, mail, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
* Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
* Evaluates situations (i.e., involving students, teachers, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
* Trains and directs student helpers for the purpose of providing clerical assistance in the school office.
* Maintains accurate daily attendance records, reports and letters for the purpose of tracking student attendance.
* Contacts parents/guardians for the purpose of verifying excused and unexcused absences, and other attendance related issues.
Other Job Functions:
* Supervises student workers and aides for the purpose of ensuring appropriate class credit and/or learning experience.
* Assists other school office personnel for the purpose of providing support and backup for their assignments and/or coordinating work activities; and administers first aid and medication to students for the purpose of meeting their immediate health care needs in the absence of the health clerk.
* Reconciles cash accounts as assigned for the purpose of maintaining accurate balances and complying with accounting practices.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Experience Required:
Prior job related experience with increasing responsibility.
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills: to operate standard office equipment, including use of computer applications; correct English usage in both written and verbal form, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; and must be able to type 45 words per minute.
Knowledge: of rules and regulations related to assigned department; basic budgeting; financial and statistical record keeping; and standard office equipment.
Abilities: to work independently, and understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Significant physical abilities include sitting for prolonged periods of time; reaching/handling; communicating in both written and verbal form; and using near vision/visual perception.
* Education Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing Required:
TB test; fingerprint clearance; typing test; and CPR and First Aid certifications.
Proof of high school diploma or equivalent, like the GED; proof of current hands on CPR and First Aid, or proof of enrollment in a hands on CPR and First Aid class that is no more than two (2) weeks out, via an email confirmation from the place enrolled, a resume, and two (2) letters of recommendation that are dated less than two (2) years ago, signed with an actual signature, not electronically signed or left blank. Typing is required at 45 net wpm. At this time, we only accepts typing certificates issued by Barstow Community College or from Silver Valley Unified that are dated less than one (1) year ago.

Please NOTE District's location below: Our District Office is located in Yermo, CA just 8 miles north of Barstow, California. We have one (1) High School which is located in Yermo, one (1) Alternative Education Center located in Daggett, two (2) Elementary Schools one in Yermo and one in Newberry Springs. We also have three (3) school sites located on the Military Base (Fort Irwin) which is approximately 40 miles north of our District Office.
