Under general supervision performs highly technical governmental accounting work of considerable difficulty in the preparation of the County's financial policies and procedures; works with county-wide financial information that can have a county-wide affect; performs related work as assigned. Please note: The hiring salary is dependent upon relevant experience and qualifications. Once onboarded and trained, a hybrid schedule of up to 50% remote work may be offered. (Illustrative Only) Assists in the preparation of the financial statements and schedules, including the Annual Comprehensive Finance Report Maintains Countys capital asset system and trains departments on associated policies and procedures Prepares complex reconciliations and adjustments to the Countys financial records Supports external audits of Countys financial statements and records Reviews, evaluates and approves adjustments to the County's financial records Performs and reviews cash and bank reconciliations Monitors and analyzes the integrity of the County's financial records Reviews financial documents prepared by County departments for accuracy and compliance with governmental accounting principles and County procedures Assists, trains and advises County departments regarding appropriate accounting practices, laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and use of the County's financial system Assists in the maintenance of the general ledger chart of accounts and advises departments on appropriate accounting structure Assists in the development and administration financial and internal control policies and procedures Advises Accounting Manager on significant accounting issues May supervise staff Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to sitting for computer work; working with and around other staff; working alone; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer work, vision acuity (near/ far) for computer work; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation with staff and customers; finger dexterity for typing/ 10-key. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting field and three years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR, Associate's degree in accounting field and four years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR, Five years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT(S): Technical accounting knowledge and training The ideal candidate enjoys technical accounting, performing reconciliations, and providing technical assistance to others within the organization. Preferred qualifications: Experience with governmental or fund accounting. This position is exempt. Note: Individuals in exempt classifications as part time employees may be classified as non-exempt per FLSA law regarding minimum weekly salary requirements. Considerable knowledge of: Principles, practices and techniques of governmental accounting and auditing Principles, practices and techniques of financial reporting Comprehensive framework and development of internal controls Federal, state and local laws governing county financial activities Personnel management and the principles of positive supervision Working knowledge of: Practices and techniques of governmental purchasing Practices and techniques of governmental budgeting Principles, practices and techniques of cost accounting Payroll system policies and procedures Policies and requirements of grant financial management and reporting Skill in: Design and effective use of technology for financial management, analysis and reporting Analysis, evaluation and interpretation of complex financial information Proficiency with spreadsheets and financial software Ability to: Conduct detailed research and analysis of complex financial data and prepare reports and findings Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate policies and procedures Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing Follow verbal and written instructions Coconino County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
