Position Type: Service PersonnelDate Posted: 12/18/2024Location: MaintenanceClosing Date: 12/24/2024POSITION: Plumber I IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of Maintenance FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 261 days annually SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Scale, Pay Grade E2 commensurate with experience and education level. EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel. JOB SUMMARY: The plumber provides general repair, maintenance, and installation of utility lines and systems necessary for heat, water, and sewage disposal in school system facilities for the efficient maintenance and preventive maintenance of school system plants. Includes kitchen and pool maintenance, waste water plants and all plumbing in HVAC Systems. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Performs maintenance and installation of utility lines and systems.
  • Plans and carries out preventive maintenance schedules as related to school plant and kitchen plumbing systems.
  • Performs plumbing tasks and possibly minor welding and machine work as required in the maintenance of plumbing systems with relation to other crafts in the Maintenance Department.
  • Plans job assignments and maintains records of materials and time on the job.
  • May have other craftsmen assigned to him as required by the job.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • Complies with KCS Policies.
  • Complete necessary training and in-service as required by KCS.
  • Receives permission from building principal/supervisor to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Attends in-services and workshops as directed.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations and uses prescribed personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Continuously improves processes.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c; Meet the definition of Qualifications in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test) as required. Training through the formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience in plumbing crafts. Must have apprenticeship program in plumbing and preferably four to five years' experience in the plumbing craft Journeyman Plumber's License issued by the WV Department of Labor required. Minimum qualifications for the Journeyman license are at least 8,000 hours of plumbing or related experience and competence to instruct and supervise the work of a plumber in training. Plumber I means personnel employed as apprentice plumber.
  • Ability to read blueprints required.
  • Ability to solve daily problems in scheduling and performing task.
