Job DescriptionThe Patient Transporter transports patients to specific areas of the hospital. Relies on establish guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision. A vital member of the Surgical Services Department who provides ancillary support to both the professional anesthesia personnel and surgery team. The attendant will check equipment, order/stock supplies, drugs and equipment to facilitate departmental functions.ResponsibilitiesJob Duties
Maintain and protect confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care. Identifies the patient verbally and by armband. Provides age appropriate patient care. Assists patients to and from stretchers. Transports patients to holding, and assists with transports to OR and PACU in a safe and timely manner. Assists nursing staff with prepping and positioning. Orients patient and family to the holding room. Able to assess and communicate if a patient is unable to be transported. Utilizes a collaborative interdisciplinary process to provide support to all members in the OR to provide appropriate patient/family education. Reports changes in the patients condition during transportation or before and notifies holding nurse. Performs minor repair on equipment/instrument in accordance to schematic/verbal instructions. Demonstrates a working knowledge of all equipment; maintains equipment in safe and proper working condition through correct use. Performs any of the following tasks utilizing aseptic technique: open sterile supplies, aid in gowning, set up a D&C. Shares the responsibility of general departmental duties with all OR team members, including but not limited to the following: participates in general cleaning maintains par levels of anesthesia supplies and medications cleans and resupplies anesthesia and epidural carts shares responsibility of maintaining appropriate inventory levels and restocking restocks warmer with blankets, irrigation and IV fluids maintains appropriate par levels on non-chargeable stock cart Participates in the orientation of new hires. Serves as a resource for physicians and other departments. Assists with monitoring QI critical indicators and monthly equipment checks. Assists other team members in cleaning and preparing OR between cases in a timely manner and at the end of the schedule. Provides for patients safety by locking bed, raising siderails during transport, protecting IV tubing, keeping OR hallways free from clutter. Observing and reporting malfunctioning OR and anesthesia equipment to Biomedical.Conduct and Communication Skills

Demonstrates cost conscious attitude toward staffing, supplies, and departmental function. Obtains and uses information to improve patient outcomes and individual and hospital performance. Maintains interdepartmental communication through utilization of available resources. Follows established hospital guidelines with regards to appropriate access of information. Utilizes hospital and/or departmental manuals appropriately (i.e. Safety Manual, MSDS Manual, Policy & Procedure Manuals, etc.) Respects each patients rights and conducts business relationships with patients and the public in an ethical manner. (i.e. confidentiality, privacy, security, preferences, etc.) Reflects the hospitals values and a sensitivity to the hospitals ethical and compliance principles in his/her daily activities. Able to institute and follow policy and procedures as related to ethical issues. Follows appropriate channels of communication to effectively express ideas, issues, concerns, suggestions, and questions. Professional Development
Attends required in-services. Attends and participates in a minimum of 3/4ths of departmental meetings Meets hospital wide and department specific educational requirements. Participates in hospital wide and department specific Performance Improvement projects. Makes suggestions to improve department or hospital wide performance. Identifies self or department improvement needs and seeks appropriate resources. Maintains a safe, functional, and effective environment for patients, staff members, and other individuals in the hospital. Responds to Emergency Preparedness Plan according to hospital policy. (i.e. Code Blue, Code Red, Code White, etc.) Knowledgeable of location and use of emergency response equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers, fire alarms, crash carts, etc.) Maintains a safe and orderly work area. Cleans equipment as needed. Maintains equipment in safe and proper working condition through correct use and appropriate notification of malfunction. When indicated, completes occurrence reports in a timely manner. Applies appropriate ergonomic principles to reduce the potential for job related injuries. Can implement all policies and procedures to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring and transmitting infections among patients, employees, and others. Maintains a current Employee Health screening status as per hospital policy.
