The Director of Finance provides strategic financial leadership, oversight, and management to ensure the fiscal health of the church. This individual oversees all financial operations, including fundraising, stewardship, budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, payroll, and compliance. The role requires both high-level strategic thinking and hands-on management to support the church's mission and ministry goals effectively.Key responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and management of the church's annual budget, ensuring financial health and transparency.
- Conduct financial forecasting and analysis to support long-term planning and identify growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with finance committees and external consultants to review financial reports, audits, and investment strategies.
- Identify growth opportunities to increase congregational generosity.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports for leadership, committees, and stakeholders.
- Monitor cash flow and oversee investment strategies, ensuring proper stewardship of church resources.
- Present financial reports to church leadership and finance committees.
- Provide regular updates to stakeholders on fundraising progress and impact.Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards (including nonprofit regulations).
- Lead the annual financial audit process and address audit findings.
- Oversee risk management, including insurance policies, contracts, and liability mitigation.
- Partner with ministry leaders to provide financial insights and resources to achieve ministry objectives.
- Communicate financial information to the congregation when appropriate, fostering trust and transparency.
- Partner with the Senior Pastor and leadership team to define and execute the church's vision and strategic goals.Congregational Engagement and Communication
- Work with ministry leaders to identify funding needs and align resources with ministry goals.
- Communicate the church's financial health and development priorities to the congregation.
- Act as a liaison between the congregation, staff, and leadership to maintain trust and engagement.Qualifications:Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)Experience:
- 5+ years of financial management experience
- Experience managing large budgets and supervising staffSkills:
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices and fund accounting
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as QuickBooks, Excel, church management systems, etc.Core Competencies:
