Job DetailsJob Location Washington St Campus - Portland, ORPosition Type Full Time -Salary Range $21.79 - $29.04 Hourly Description Position Close Date: 12/27/24 ***Applicants must upload a resume to their application in order to be considered for this opportunity.*** Position Summary: The Recovery Mentor provides substance use recovery support and assertive case management for persons residing in Multnomah County at Volunteers of America of Oregon. This position requires experience providing mentor services for individuals who may be homeless or that need support transitioning back to crime and drug-free life in the community. Participants come from a diversity of backgrounds, family structures and cultures, and we seek a mentor who has experienced similar situations during their own transition to a crime/drug free life. Education, Training & Experience:
    High school diploma or GED required. MHACBO Recovery Mentor certification (CRM) required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience working with individuals who are in recovery from substance use disorders, and who are experiencing mental illness.
  • Experience with engagement enhancement strategies.
  • Mission-focused and passionate.
  • Commitment to the highest level of ethical and professional standards.
  • Experience with electronic health records preferred. Competencies:
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to work with pre-contemplative individuals while providing quality support with compassion and empathy.
    • Ability to develop rapport with clients, staff and other community partners while maintaining professional boundaries.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of resources and programs in the Multnomah County area.
    • Familiar with addiction and the recovery process.
    • Well-developed clinical documentation skills and the ability to write accurate and concise reports.
    • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to maintain professional boundaries in challenging situations.
    • Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word and Outlook. Additional Eligibility Requirements:
      • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
      • Reliable vehicle, active driver's license, current insurance, and ability to pass our insurer's driving standards. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
        • Introduce program participants to the 12-step and other community recovery meetings or support systems.
        • Assist participants in obtaining food stamps, food boxes, and personal identification as needed.
        • Monitor and assist program participants to follow through on a case management plan designed by the individual.
        • Help program participants to prepare resumes, teach job readiness skills, and connect them with job development programs and employers.
        • Transport program participants to appointments, recovery activities, and to obtain resources, or treatment needs.
        • Work in a friendly, collaborative manner with community partners, including frequent communication with each participant's primary counselor and parole officer.
        • Follow VOA policies and procedures and all relevant state and federal regulations and standards.
        • Attend and actively participate in individual and group supervision, weekly staffing and other meetings as assigned by the clinical supervisor.
        • Perform CPR in case of emergency. Other Responsibilities:
          • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
          • Connect participants with community services and supports.
          • Attend trainings as required. Work Environment: Work is performed in an outpatient treatment center with moderate light and temperature, with frequent travel throughout the Metro area. Must be prepared to handle client crises and/or emergencies. Schedule: This is a full-time position Monday thru Friday, with some weekend and evening hours required for client events.
