FamilySearch is seeking qualified candidates with genealogical research expertise to fill a full-time, 6-month, temporary position, at the Family History Library with the US/Canada Research team.Purposes:The purpose of the Family History Department is to create inspiring experiences that bring joy to all people as they discover, gather, and connect their family-past, present, and future. One of the expectations of employment in the Family History Department is a willingness to do Family History research and help others do the same.We are looking for self-driven, creative thinkers who can:* Assist with library operational needs (staffing and projects).* Provide friendly, timely, and accurate research guidance and assistance to the public.* Answer in-person and online United States and Canada genealogy research questions.* Network and collaborate with the genealogical community.* Bachelor's degree in Family History or related field with specialization in the United States and Canada, or equivalent research experience.* High computer proficiency, especially with internet searching, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365, Teams), and online video conferencing. Ability to quickly learn and use other internal software.* Working knowledge of FamilySearch products (FamilySearch.org, including the FamilySearch Catalog, Wiki, Historical Records, Family Tree, Memories, etc.)* Advanced genealogical research skills.* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).* Ability to decipher and interpret handwritten records in English.* Outstanding interpersonal skills.Preferred skills (Not required):* Accredited Genealogist (United States or Canada area), Board-certified by Board for Certification of Genealogists, or equivalent experience in genealogy, history, or a related field.* Canadian research expertise and knowledge of French records and language.* Proficiency in other geographical research areas or languages.Additional information:* The full-time position will require working some Saturdays, holidays, and evenings.* If we choose to interview you, we will require samples of your genealogical writing and your research and documentation skills.* During interviews, you may be asked to demonstrate:* Customer service skills.* Technology skills.* Document identification, deciphering, and translation skills.Apply online at
