Role Description
As the Maintenance Manager at FCT Austin, you'll lead our maintenance team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all company-owned vehicles. This role is integral to our success, overseeing a team of mechanics, assigning and directing work, providing training, and ensuring all preventative maintenance and repairs are completed to the highest standards. You'll play a crucial part in driving operational excellence while upholding FCT's strong commitment to safety and reliability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and manage daily service requests, repair orders (ROs), and maintenance schedules.
- Assign tasks to maintenance staff based on skill levels and workload priorities.
- Provide guidance on repair procedures, service bulletins, technical manuals, and safe practices.
- Monitor maintenance operations to ensure safety standards, organization, and quality control.
- Communicate daily updates to operations teams, detailing completed repairs, vehicles returned to service, and outstanding issues.
- Evaluate and document staff performance, providing feedback to the Fleet Manager on strengths and areas for development.
- Utilize fleet management software (e.g., RTA) to track repairs, parts orders, and preventative maintenance intervals.
- Perform and oversee diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on vehicle systems, including: Diesel and gasoline engines; Braking systems (hydraulic and air); Electrical and wiring systems; HVAC systems; Suspension and steering; Wheels, tires, and drivetrain.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Oversee continuing education and training for the maintenance team to stay current with industry standards and technology.
- Promote a culture of safety by enforcing the use of personal protective equipment and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
Qualifications
- Supervisory Skills, Maintenance Management, and Equipment Maintenance expertise
- Experience in Preventive Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance
- Relevant certifications or training in maintenance management
Education / Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical Degree in Diesel and Industrial Technology (or similar focus) and 2 years' experience in a diesel/bus repair and maintenance environment
- If no degree, minimum 5 years' experience in a diesel/bus repair and maintenance environment
- Minimum 2 years' experience supervising staff of at least one or more
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Class C Driver License is required
- Class A or B California driver's license with a passenger endorsement and air brakes, or able to obtain
- MACS (Mobile Air Conditioning Society) Section 609 certification, or able to obtain
- Forklift certified to operate a sit-down forklift and scissor lift, or able to obtain
Compensation: $80,000+
