Job Purpose Statement: The job of Campus Assistant is done for the purpose of identifying potential situations regarding the welfare and safety of students, personnel and/or visitors and/or security of site; enforcing truancy and disciplinary policies; communicating information in response to inquiries; and providing emergency care to students and other individuals as may be required
Essential Job Functions
Assists other personnel (e.g. office staff, administrators, teachers, etc.) as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in responding to incidents.
Assists with the removal of graffiti, delivers mail, notices, etc., provide relief before/after school hours to switchboard.
Detains individuals suspected of engaging in illegal activities for the purpose of apprehending suspects, transfer to arresting police officer and/or preventing further illegal activities.
Diffuse potential student conflicts (i.e. arguments, fights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the frequency or severity of incidents that could cause harm to students and/or disrupt campus activities.
Monitors assigned areas and/or site activities for the purpose of ensuring non-authorized persons are not on school grounds, preventing vandalism, hazards, safety of students, personnel and property.
Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of campus rules, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and/or administration. Use of two way radios.
Responds to potential emergencies (e.g. alarm calls, bomb threats, fights, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety of students, personnel and property
Other Job Functions:
Administers minor first aid (cuts, bruises, etc) to students for the purpose of providing emergency care and meeting their immediate health care needs.
Counsels students on a variety of concerns (e.g. gang related activity, threats, drugs, etc.) for the purpose of advising appropriate action.
Informs students, personnel and the general public as appropriate of laws and enforcement procedures for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of the potential consequences of their actions.
Interacts with other agencies, (e.g. assisting law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or receiving information regarding situations that may affect safety within the school environment.
Investigates potential campus crimes and/or student related community incidents (e.g. drugs, gang activities, bomb threats, etc.) for the purpose of resolving conflicts and/or pursuing further appropriate action.
Responds to inquiries of the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
Transports students to home as may be periodically required for the purpose of ensuring individuals safety
Job Requirements - Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge to perform basic math; to read procedures, write complex sentences and speak distinctly; and to apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions in a combination of written, oral and diagrammatic form.
Skills to perform multiple basic non-technical tasks. Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operate standard office equipment; perform basic first aid and health care; and prepare and maintain accurate records.
Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that requires significant flexibility with people; discretion, independent action and/or judgment with regards to working with people; and interacting with persons and/or agendas that frequently change. Specific abilities to adhere to safety practices; be attentive to detail. May be required to ride a bicycle in the performance of their duties

Working Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an outdoor/indoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; sensory speaking, hearing and visual.
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirements: Some job related experience is a prerequisite. Military experience may be considered in lieu of job related experience
Licensing, Certification, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance; valid drivers license and evidence of insurability; CPR and First Aid Certificates (certificates from internet courses are NOT acceptable). Possession of certificate verifying successful completion of SB1626 for Campus Assistants or completion of SB1626 certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
