JOB TITLE: Substitute Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS: Washington Registered Nurse (RN) license or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license; ability to work with children and parents of diverse ethnic cultures in our PreK-12 system. Valid CPR certification.Successfully pass a criminal background check.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special and Migrant Education
JOB GOAL:
To enhance the educational process of students by maximizing their health and well-being, modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning, and promoting an optimal level of wellness.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Administer first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatment for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
* Record required screening programs (e.g., hearing, vision, dental, physical, etc.)
* Establish, update, and maintain health and immunization records.
* Maintains current health records on each student.
* Organizes and assists with physical examinations of eligible migrant children.
* Provides emergency care to students and school personnel.
* Follow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
* Evaluates medical aspects of children with learning and behavior problems.
* Acts as a liaison between staff, parents, and community health agencies.
* Provides health counseling to students, parents, and staff.
* Serves as a resource person for health materials to students, staff, and parents.
* Assists in providing information and guidance in the selection of health careers.
* Recognizes, reports, and deals with infectious diseases in accordance with state laws and recommendations.
* Identifies health problems through observations, examinations, screenings, interviews, or record analysis, and initiates care and/or refers for appropriate health intervention.
* Provides assistance in developing or revising school policy regarding accident prevention and reporting.
* Makes this information available to individuals and families as appropriate.
* Maintains and implements emergency care plans for students and staff with life-threatening health conditions.
* Maintains and implements Section 504 evaluations and plans for students with medical diagnoses.
* Maintains compliance with all WACs/RCWs as they pertain to school health issues of all PreK-12 students.
* Supervises prescribed medical treatments and medication administration.
* Provides assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referral for appropriate medical care of students with acute/chronic health conditions and emergency situations.
* Coordinates the provision of first aid supplies for First Responders and for school staff (e.g., disposable gloves, Band-Aids).
* Stocks medical supplies for the Health Room
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: Reports to the Director of Special and Migrant Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
SCHEDULE: On Call
SALARY AND BENEFITS: $35 per hour
EVALUATION: By the Director of Special and Migrant Education before May 31st.
