Definition
Under general supervision is responsible for operating pavement marking and/or sign installation equipment and for performing major repairs, parts replacement and overhaul of pavement marking and/or sign installation equipment; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
* Lays out traffic cones and or other devices in order to divert traffic;
* Measures and lays out pavement markings and sign locations from blueprints and work orders in order to ensure that layouts and signs are properly placed and correct in all dimensions;
* Inspects job site for signs of unmarked utilities before installing sign posts;
* Sets up paint striping machines, thermoplastic cookers, and thermoplastic striping trucks used to apply pavement markings;
* Operates a grinder to remove pavement markings from pavement;
* Operates pneumatic post driving equipment in the installation of traffic signs; operates large auger in the installation of street names signs;
* Operates a paint striping machine and thermoplastic cart to install crosswalks, stop bars, and other intersection pavement markings maintaining proper millimeter thickness and reflectivity;
* Operates shop machinery and tools such as power saws, drill presses, metal cutting shears, pipe threaders and cutters, and bending breaks;
* Performs major and minor repairs, parts replacement, and overhaul work for pavement marking and/or sign installation equipment including thermoplastic trucks, thermoplastic cookers, applicators, various striping machines, pneumatic post drivers, large auger, sign installation trucks, dump truck, cement mixer, and other equipment;
* Dissembles, cleans, and repairs all paint/thermoplastic application and/or sign installation equipment;
* Drives commercial motor vehicles that require a commercial driver's license;
* Operates a front-end loader and snow plowing equipment;
* Installs, repairs, and removes raised curb channeling systems and ground mounted traffic flex posts;
* Trains workers in the operation and maintenance of paint/thermoplastic application and/or sign installation equipment;
* May operate a mobile device to view/edit digital work orders and maintain records of materials used and work performed;
* May perform shop maintenance such as painting walls, repairing plumbing, and shop equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience installing and maintaining traffic signs or traffic pavement markings.
Possession of a valid Class B commercial motor vehicle operator's license with an air brakes endorsement.

The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Information Ordering, Map Reading, Safety, Traffic Paint and Sign Operations, Form Completion and Microsoft Outlook 2016/2019.
Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
