Basic Function: Directs and coordinates activities of manufacturing engineering department to design, manufacture, and test tooling / pattern components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate. Works closely with the Vice-President of Operations and other functional leaders in the company, including those in finance, sales, and operations. Responsible for the company's product development activities. Commitment to continuous improvement practices and achieving company goals, strategies, plans and policies.Responsibilities and Duties:1. Provides leadership and direction for the manufacturing engineering group including engineering standards and performance measurements. Coaches and directs teams in the spirit of continuous process improvement, improved product quality, shortened department lead times, and effective use of technology.2. Directs and advises department activities to create and modify existing engineering standards to include new product design, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.3. Maintain/upgrade intellectual capital by developing existing employees and attracting qualified employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees that either have or can develop skills necessary to meet company needs and objectives; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and succession planning; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.4. Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.5. Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.6. Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.7. Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.8. Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.9. Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.10. Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.11. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.12. Assists manufacturing supervisors in documenting standard processes.13. Determines space requirements for various functions, and plans or improves production methods including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material fabrication, assembly methods and manpower requirements.14. Communicates with planning and design staffs concerning product design and tooling to assure efficient production methods.15. Estimates production times and cost to determine optimum staffing for production requirements.16. Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.17. Approves or arranges approval for expenditures.18. Reports to management on manufacturing capacities, production schedules and problems to facilitate decision making.19. Investigates, negotiates, justifies and coordinates the purchase and implementation of capital projects.20. Performs time and motion studies to determine manufacturing costs and best methods.21. Supports the implementation of the Lean Manufacturing Program as required.RequirementsQualifications and Required Skills:•Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred•Minimum of three to five years engineering related experience preferred•Familiar with ISO 9001:2008 or similar quality systems.•Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) is a plus.•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.•Strong organization and planning skills.•Proficient in the use of Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is a required.•Proficient use of AutoCad, Solidworks, SurfCam is a required.•Ability to take lead in projects and attain results with minimal guidance.•Outstanding Problem Solving skills are also required.•Ability to lift 25 - 60 lbs of material. Lifting generally from floor to knee or waist level.
