Job Description SummaryThe Unit Coordinator/Secretary through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other Hospitaldepartments and visitors. He/she performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.Job Description1 - CUSTOMER SERVICE - - a - * Demonstrates professional courtesy in all interactions, answers questions or finds someone who can. - - b - Acts as resource person to nursing staff, other clinicians and support services. - - c - Interacts with patient and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity and patience.2 - TECHNOLOGY -Utilizes technological solutions to work processes and practices. - - a - *Utilizes all meditech applications required by department and unit standards (PCS, order entry, EMR, etc). - - b - * Access lotus notes to review email, learning management and other resources as applicable.3 - ORDERS/ ADMISSION/DISCHARGE/TRANSFER OF PATIENTS - - a - * Scan all orders to Pharmacy, alerts nurse to STAT orders and enters physician orders in a timely manner. - - b - Clarifies all questions related to orders with assigned nurse. - - c - *File reports in to the patient's chart in appropriate areas. - - d - *Keeps bed track and PCS systems up to date. - - e - *Books appointments through central scheduling as indicated. - - f - - -Ensures discharge disposition is entered accurately and in a timely manner - - g - Fax necessary discharge paperwork and medication reconciliation to appropriate provider(s). - - h - * Completes daily chart audits.4 - SUPPLIES/SERVICES - - a - Order supplies from Stores/other departments as needed or requested in collaboration with Operations Supervisor. - - b - Collaborates with Operations Supervisor to maintain/change par levels and to order from outside vendors.5 - MONITORS THE SAFETY OF THE BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PATIENT AS EVIDENCED BY; - - a - Provides continuous video observation of patient(s), does not leave video monitor unattended. - - b - May be required to monitor several patients with similar needs during one shift. - - c - On duty until relieved by oncoming coverage or Registered Nurse discontinues coverage. - - d - Maintains a safe environment as directed by the Registered Nurse. - - e - Obtains appropriate information at the start of the shift in regard to care from licensed nurse. - - f - Keeps patient(s) in sight at all time. - - g - Alerts the appropriate RN to assist in the event of an unexpected change in behavior or safety risk to patient. - - h - Maintains confidentiality of patient(s).6 - SAFETY AWARENESSFosters a Culture of Safety through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment - - a - *Understands individual roles/responsibilities in event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness. - (e.g., Code Disaster). - - b - Ensures that unit environment meets regulatory requirements at all times (no cardboard boxes on the floor, safe passages). -7 - PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - - a - Functions as a preceptor for new employees. - - b - Facilitates efficient hand off shift to shift. - - c - Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and Hospital. - - d - Utilizes critical thinking and problem solving in day to day operations as well as emergent situations. - - - e - Communicates appropriately and effectively utilizing the chain of command. - - f - Assumes an active role in keeping informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.8 - COMPLIANCE - - a - Works within legal, regulatory and ethical practice standards relevant to the position. - - b - Complies with applicable policies and procedures.. - - c - Safeguards the privacy and security of patient information. - The employee complies with policies and procedures relating to SSH's privacy and security programs. - - d - Brings potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director or VP. - - e - Complies with the mandatory education requirements of the compliance, privacy and security programs.9 - PATIENT/FAMILY CENTERED CARE - - a - Conveys respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family. - - b - Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients and families to promote patient health and well-being. -ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Cont.)1 - Technology and Learning - - a - Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization. - - b - Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role.Physical Requirements:General Activity - Frequent Standing/Walking Required, No DrivingMotion - Frequent Activity Required-pushing, pulling, lifting, bendingMotor Skills - Use of hands required, Use of feet requiredWeight/Force - Light lifting required (Body Fluid Exposure - Yes
