Nelson Pope Voorhis (NPV) is seeking a qualified Senior Landscape Ecologist to work in the Sustainable Landscape Division in our Melville, New York office for an immediate start. NPV is an environmental planning firm with offices in Melville and the lower Hudson Valley providing a wide range of professional consulting services.
The Sustainable Landscape Division focuses on ecologically based solutions, master planning for parks and campuses, green infrastructure, native revegetation, invasive species management, shoreline and wetland restorations and public education/outreach.
Responsibilities/Top Skills/Qualifications:
- Oversee and manage sustainable landscape projects.
- Develop and implement strategies for green stormwater management solutions and related services.
- Coordinate grant opportunities for green infrastructure, water quality improvement, invasive species management and native/sustainable landscape projects.
- Develop concept and construction design plans for the implementation of green infrastructure projects including, but not limited to, rain gardens and bioswales, for sustainable stormwater management.
- Design and coordinate native habitat restoration/preservation projects (i.e. pollinator gardens, solar array fields, wetland restoration, hybrid/living shoreline stabilization, recreational use area management).
- Prepare sustainable master plans for parks and campuses with a focus on long term sustainability, native vegetation species, invasive species management and low maintenance opportunities.
- Collaborate with property owners, developers, architects, engineers and surveyors to incorporate integrated and sustainable solutions for a range of private and public sector projects (i.e. residential, commercial, municipal, recreational/parks, industrial, etc).
- Prepare and review reports and plans for specialized projects (i.e. water quality improvement plans, invasive species management opportunities and methods, natural shoreline stabilization and restoration, tree inventory, native habitat assessment, public outreach/presentation etc).
- Mentor and support junior staff members.
- Bachelor's degree in ecology, environmental science, Landscape Architecture, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years in management of native and sustainable landscape design projects.
- Strong and demonstratable background in native and invasive vegetation species identification, mapping, management methods, applications, etc.
- Experience in project management, budgeting, proposal preparation, etc.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities as well as organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in relevant software/tools which includes AutoCAD and Adobe Design Suite.
