Job SummaryThe Buyer is responsible for the procurement of raw materials, equipment and selected services for the OCS (Connectivity/Fusion Splicer/Professional Services) division. This is accomplished through the review and maintenance of the automated inventory control and purchasing system (SAP). The Buyer is also responsible for soliciting quotes and proposals for selected materials and/or services. This information is to be evaluated and presented to management to make the best decisions relative to supplier selection. Additionally, Buyers are expected to keep management aware of price fluctuations that may occur within their assigned scope of responsibilities. This position is subject to full-time 40 hours per week. This could be 5 days in the office or an Hybrid schedule designated by the Senior Manager.Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Review usage information and inventory level guidelines. Use this information as a basis for purchases.
- Create third party purchase orders for OFS contract manufacturers. Responsible for subsequent third-party PO follow-up with suppliers and contract manufacturers including expedites, modifications, revisions, expedited freight, etc.
- Work on various projects including new product launch, sourcing changes, aged/surplus inventory disposition and cost reductions
- Update and establish purchasing procedures as required
- Maintain a list of qualified suppliers
- Provide input to supplier evaluations
- Cross training to serve as a backup for other team members
Job Qualifications
- Strong computer skills - Microsoft office including Microsoft Excel at intermediate level (formulas, formatting, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills - expresses self well - both written and orally
- Working knowledge of working with Contract manufacturers
- Strong data entry skills
- Self-starter, ability to work well independently and multitask
- Strong team player
- Attention to detail and accuracy are essential
- SAP experience
- Connectivity and Fusion Splicer Product knowledge preferred
- Previous purchasing and/or Connectivity experience preferred
- Technical/ associate degree or higher preferred
- Working knowledge of accounting principles preferred
- Prior experience with production planning, MRP, and economic order quantities preferred
- Knowledge of lean processes preferred
