Job Title: Manager, Data Engineering Reports to: Sr. Director of Business Analytics Location: Remote (In-office or hybrid option available with management approval) Schedule: Core Business Hours Position Summary: Vaco is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering to lead and develop its data engineering team. This role is pivotal in overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data infrastructure and pipelines. The successful candidate will work closely with the Data Architect, BI Manager, and other cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of the company's data systems while aligning with long-term data strategies. This is a player-coach role initially, transitioning to a more strategic management position by 2026. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Data Architect on long-term data platform strategy and architecture.
  • Oversee the design, development, and documentation of data pipelines, ensuring data integration, quality, and security.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools for data lineage, ETL/ELT processes, and API integrations.
  • Support the ongoing migration from on-premise infrastructure to Azure cloud solutions.
  • Ensure effective communication and foster collaboration across teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Provide hands-on contributions in SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Data Lake as needed.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT, Data Engineering, and Database Administration, with 5+ years in SQL Server (T-SQL proficiency required).
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, database structures, and ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Experience with cloud environments, particularly Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and API integrations.
  • Strong SQL skills, including stored procedures, with proficiency in data design and management.
  • Previous management experience leading technical teams, with a focus on coaching and development.
  • Python skills are a plus but not mandatory.
  • IPAAS experience preferred.

Compensation:
  • Salary range: $110,000 - $183,000 (targeting ~$150,000 base + 15% bonus), with flexibility for the right candidate.

  • Fully remote work is acceptable, with minimal travel requirements (less than 5%).
  • The team includes a Senior Data Architect, Data Engineers (onshore and offshore), a soon-to-be-hired BI Manager, and reporting specialists.
