Job TitleTechnical Assistant IIAgencyTexas A&M Agrilife Extension ServiceDepartmentSoil & Crop SciencesProposed Minimum Salary$17.00 hourlyJob LocationCollege Station, TexasJob TypeStaffJob DescriptionThe Technical Assistant II, under supervision, performs a variety of technical duties in the operation and maintenance of a research or teaching laboratory or particular research project in physical sciences, engineering, or life sciences.Responsibilities:-Primary responsibilities will include the analysis of pulverized soil samples through use of laboratory instrumentation and extraction of soil samples for analyses by other staff.-Additional responsibilities may include assisting with soil, plant and water analyses. Routinely prepares soil extracting solutions and maintains inventory data on laboratory supplies and assist in the maintenance of laboratory shakers and some instrumentation.-Works with laboratory managers to maintain and updates to the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures documentation.-Utilizes instrumentation and equipment for soil pH, texture and salinity analyses.-Performs data entry and associated computer activities.-Grinds, reduces, and analyzes a wide variety of product specimens.-Performs cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging of instruments and equipment.-Enters daily and monthly charges on the computer.-Maintains and organizes original and electronic records for operations and safety processes, including data entry for annual chemical inventory.-Collects and records data and performs mathematical tasks involved in summarizing results of experiments.-Other duties as required.Required Education and Experience:-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.-One year of related experience in performing laboratory procedures or assisting in experimental work within the field of specialization.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:-Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures.-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.-Strong verbal and written communication skills.-Ability to work beyond normal office ours and/or work on weekends.All positions are security-sensitive.
