The Wesson Group, LLC., is expanding and looking for an addition to our tight-knit team. We are a young and rapidly growing general contractor located in Johnstown, NY. We currently are looking for a Senior Estimator with a background in heavy and highway construction and Renewable Energy markets to join our family of dedicated and hard-working professionals.
Responsibilities Briefly Described
Provide and coordinate full estimating services on heavy-civil and heavy-highway construction projects ranging from $1M to $250M
Lead estimating team and provide technical direction in estimating assignments.
Provide Market and Competition Analysis for pursuits.
Review and approve estimates prepared by the estimating team.
Reviewing Customer contracts to ensure proper scope and terms.
Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate.
Establish and Maintain relationships with key subcontractor estimating teams
Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid
Participate in and/or lead design-build preconstruction services, both internally and in joint ventures to ensure high quality, competitive estimates and schedules.
Utilize benchmarking data to maintain or improve target margins
Research upcoming projects and aid in developing customer base
Attend potential bid meetings and required site visits
Present estimate and participate in executive bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Review take-off quantities to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates.
Supervise, direct, and mentor preconstruction department staff reports to ensure individual development and that The Wesson Groups quality standards are met, and standard operating procedures are followed
Bid and pre-construction scoping
Solicit and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure full coverage on all scopes of work.
Prepare preliminary pre-bid schedules
Work with PM and other required staff to prepare statements of qualifications
Collaborating with Project Managers, Contractors, Engineers, and suppliers to prepare accurate estimates
Drafting proposals that outline the project requirements
Work with estimating staff to acquire competitive and successful bids
Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at budget transfer and pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of scope of job and critical means and methods of construction.
Provide Business Development Support through maintaining positive client contacts and developing opportunities with new clients and markets.
Make recommendations for software upgrades.
Maintain subscriptions for project search databases and monitor databases for opportunities.
Skills and Qualifications

Ability to supervise and lead an Estimating team to a successful project award.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects while meeting stringent deadlines.
Resourcefulness and creativity.
Have a bachelors degree in construction management or civil engineering and have 5 to 10 years of highway, utility infrastructure and/or Renewable Energy preferred.
Three positive client or employer references from whom youve worked in the last 5 years.
