Job Purpose: The Principal Data Architect is responsible for developing and implementing a data management strategy for Vital Strategies. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the individual will lead the design, development, implementation, and management of the organization's data architecture and will work directly with teams across the organization to design and engineer a robust, efficient, secure data infrastructure that aligns with our business objectives and technology strategy. Vital Strategies is committed to using data to create better health outcomes; and this position will be a thought-partner to our programmatic leadership in optimizing the management and use of data to achieve this objective, as well as working with global colleagues and partners to identify, enhance and build technology products aimed at improving public health. The role demands significant business awareness and emotional intelligence with the ability to adapt communication to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders. This is a full-time position, operating on EST time zone hours in a hybrid environment. The candidate must be located in the U.S., Brazil, or Canada. Vital Strategies offers highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The U.S. salary range for this position is $140,000-$169,000 USD. For other locations the salary ranges will be based on local market. The candidate must have authorization to work legally in the advertised locations at the time of hire. Primary areas of focus for the Principal Data Architect include: • Data Strategy and Architecture: Develop and maintain the organization's strategic data architecture, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technological innovations. • Infrastructure Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, engineer, and implement scalable, secure, and efficient data systems that support the organization's needs. • Collaboration and Thought Leadership: Partner with programmatic leaders and global colleagues to optimize data management practices and spearhead technology innovations that enhance public health outcomes. • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, tailoring messaging to suit both technical and non-technical audiences. • Data Security and Compliance: Establish and enforce policies and procedures to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations, safeguarding sensitive organizational and public health data. • Innovation and Product Development: Work with global partners to identify opportunities to enhance and develop technology products aimed at improving public health. Duties and Responsibilities: Data Strategy - • Develop and execute an organization-wide data strategy, working with stakeholders to translate strategy into action • Create vision of how data is used within the organization • Act as thought-partner to program leadership and our external partners in optimizing the management and use of data to create better health outcomes Data Governance - • Design and engineer a robust, scalable data infrastructure • Create data warehouses and pipelines aligned with organizational needs, designed to facilitate efficient data flow from multiple sources; inclusive of
  • data modeling to ensure analytic and reporting needs are met
  • ingestion processes to consistently import data
  • automation to streamline and maintain ongoing operations
• Define data infrastructure and reporting protocols and standards • Audit, enhance, and interconnect existing platforms and data sources where beneficial: NetSuite, Docusign CLM, Vena, UKG, Amazon S3 • Identify areas for improvement and innovation within existing data infrastructure • Continuously monitor and optimize data processes and platforms Collaboration - • Work directly and collaborate with global colleagues and partners to identify, enhance, and build varying technology products aimed at improving public health • Assist with reporting and data visualization projects Documentation - • Maintain up-to-date design documentation Data Security - • Design for and help ensure data security and compliance with relevant laws and regulations, assisting in creation and maintenance of information security and privacy policies People Management - • Manage and mentor a small team of analysts Other - • The Principal Data Architect position does not currently have any direct reports but will be expected to recruit and manage a small team of analysts in the future. Qualifications: Education and Degree - • Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, or related field Skills and Abilities - • Strong understanding of modern data architecture, dimensional modeling, and related concepts • Skilled in data warehouse design, analytics technology integrations, and cloud platforms • Skilled in the management of large data sets of structured and unstructured data • Strong knowledge of data governance, security, privacy regulations • Exceptional problem solving and analytic skills • Emotionally intelligent and business aware with an appreciation of different stakeholder needs in finding solutions • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt communication to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders • Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, to lead and work within diverse teams, to work in multi-cultural settings and with a high degree of independence Experience: Required - • A minimum of 15 years of progressive professional experience with 4 years of experience as a data architect, data engineer, or in a similar role • Experience creating and supporting data pipelines and warehouses using cloud-based services e.g. Amazon S3, Glue, Redshift • Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and integrating data, analytics, and cloud technology components as well as leading cloud platforms architecture/engineering • Experience successfully supervising and motivating a team Preferred - • Experience creating and supporting AI-integrated products and solutions Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: • The position may involve up to 10% travel to various international locations, depending on organizational needs #LI-Hybrid
