- Water Meter (Reader) Technician performs physically demanding work reading meters.
- Read water meters on assigned routes and enter readings into the handheld computer.
- Assists in the scrubbing of readings both before and after billing. Including rereading, locating, unburying, and removing water/debris.
- Water Meter Technician must have the ability to walk over 10 miles per day with constant bending and kneeling in all kind of weather.
- Must be able to visually read meters accurately that may be flooded, muddy, scratched, and cloudy, etc.
- Must have the ability to lift meter box lids that may weigh up to 15 lbs. and drive a vehicle.
- The candidate for Water Meter Technician should have problem-solving skills for unexpected incidents which may occur while reading meters.
- Equipment used includes a city vehicle, handheld computer, screwdriver/pry bar, pump, 2-way radio, sight tube, and small hand trowel.
- Candidates may encounter dogs, bees, snakes, spiders, etc.
SOME SATURDAYS WILL BE REQUIRED . EMPLOYEES WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESPOND DURING SEVERE / INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS , OTHER EMERGENCIES , OR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS DECLARED BY THE DIRECTOR . Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications Some experience with water meters and hand tools is preferred. Outstanding customer service skills are necessary.
