ROCKY MOUNTAIN YOUTH CORPS 2024/25 PUBLIC HEALTH CREW Position Description Upper Rio Grande Office (Taos) Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) is a nonprofit youth development organization serving New Mexico. We inspire young adults to make a positive difference in themselves and their communities. Through training and service, Corpsmembers discover their potential for healthy, productive lives. POSITION PURPOSE: Rocky Mountain Youth Corps is hosting a Public Health Crewmember and is seeking young adults with experience in Mental Health. This PHC member will support youth accessing resources available. This position is designed to support an entry level Public Health career path. Members will have an opportunity to be trained in motivational Interviewing, substance use screening, principles of substance use prevention, and how to be a mentor to adolescents. POSITION TYPE: Seasonal, 20-35 hours a week, AmeriCorps member SCHEDULE: Fall season 2024- June 6th, 2025, minimum of twenty (20) hours per week, maximum thirty five (35) hours a week. STIPEND: Weekly rate of $368-$588 (before taxes),depending on hours EDUCATION AWARD: Between $2,817.14-$5,176.50 upon completion of term of service and hour completed of the AmeriCorps Service Term REPORTS TO: RMYC Prevention Supervisor LOCATION: Members will be paired and will report to Vista Grande High School and/or Taos Pueblo. Training and other meetings will be scheduled at RMYC's office located at 1203 King Drive, Taos, NM 87571 RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work hard on all projects as part of a team of two as directed by your site supervisor. • Actively participate in regular check-ins with your site supervisor and weekly check-ins with the RMYC Prevention Program Coordinator • Participate in and successfully complete all training sessions assigne2d. • Work in and respect the educational environment of your placement site and community resources. • Comply with all RMYC and AmeriCorps rules and policies and not participate in any prohibited activities as described in the Member Service Agreement. • Participate in and complete the C4 Innovations Project Amp Near Peer Mentoring Training. • Administer substance misuse surveys among a youth population • Provide effective near peer mentoring to youths as determined by confidential survey results as a form of brief intervention • Provide support to and participate in coalition meetings, prevention planning, and other prevention related tasks as assigned. • Being responsible for communicating with supervisor and notify them of any schedule changes • Additional tasks may be assigned based on project partner needs, projects and goals • Support the delivery of ASFS (Annual Strategies for success student surveys) in Taos Municipal schools • Support the collection of New Mexico Community Surveys 4 QUALIFICATIONS: • 18+ years of age by start date • Have a High School Diploma or equivalent or agree to obtain one prior to using the Segal Education Award • US Citizen or a Permanent Legal Resident • Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check • Satisfy any additional background check requirements of the placement site, including but not limited to school based fingerprinting and background checks. • Able to complete entire length of service term (September 3, 2023 to June 6th, 2024) • Strong work ethic and willingness to work within a team of diverse individuals • Able to work in a supervised environment • Be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. • Ability to collect data for use by site supervisors and Project Amp and RMYC as needed and assigned • Must be willing to and able to maintain confidentiality as it pertains to near peer mentoring and substance misuse brief intervention and other prevention work. • Must have reliable transportation to and from your assigned site (In Taos County and possibility: Penasco, Taos) BENEFITS: • Healthcare coverage is available to all AmeriCorps members at no cost to the member. This is considered primary coverage and is not available as supplemental coverage. • RMYC observes all National holidays and are considered approved days off, however RMYC reserves the right to have AmeriCorps members work or service hours on certain holidays if necessary to meet program requirements. • Student loan forbearance is available for those who qualify Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
