Peace of Mind Dog Rescue seeks a Development Director for nonprofit fundraising and donor cultivation who is compassionate, gets excited fulfilling donors' wishes, and desires to help senior dogs and senior people.
Since its founding in 2009, Peace of Mind Dog Rescue (POMDR) has grown in both depth and breadth of services and has become a leader in the nonprofit and animal welfare community in the tri-county area. POMDR takes in and cares for over 360 dogs each year. Dogs come from senior people who can no longer care for them as well as overcrowded animal shelters. POMDR also provides financial and volunteer support to low-income and senior pet guardians who need help caring for their pets.
POMDR is a financially sound organization led by an Executive Director who is also a co-founder who has developed strong ties with donors and the local community. POMDR has an engaged board of directors and over 1,500 volunteers. The current operating budget is $2.5 million.
As our Director of Development, you will be partnering with the Executive Director to build upon a successful fund development program and grow a thriving existing base of engaged donors. This donor base increased substantially when POMDR was brought into the national spotlight by POMDR's Executive Director and Co-Founder being named one of CNN's Top Ten Heroes of 2022. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will lead our fund development program which includes annual giving, donor relations and communications, special events, grants management, our year-end campaign, and our perpetual care program, which provides lifetime care for pets when their guardians pre-decease them.
What You'll Be Doing in the role of Development Director:
· Develop strong relationships with donors and prospects, cultivate our monthly and mid-level donors, and build out a robust major gifts program.
· Oversee the implementation of a year-round fundraising program and community-based donation drives.
· Establish and meet quarterly and annual goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a diverse base of donors and foundations.
· Collaborate with the Executive Director on major gifts prospect identification and donor upgrades.
· Implement a Donor Stewardship Plan that incorporates donor-centric practices and includes specific stewardship goals and actions for individual donors of various levels. Guide potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
· Collaborate with your team to develop and host stewardship events and activities.
· Create and implement donor communications and acknowledgments aligned with our donor-centered philosophy.

· Skilled at building relationships, facilitating both one-on-one and group meetings with donors, and taking initiative to find creative ways to seek out donors and engage them in our mission.
· Minimum of six years' successful experience in nonprofit fundraising with a proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding a donor portfolio.
· Demonstrated ability to develop, advance, and sustain positive relationships with donors and colleagues.
· Proven ability to represent a mission and its interests to a diverse group of people, including community, corporate/foundation leaders, individual donors, and volunteers.
· Considerable knowledge of fund-raising techniques, and sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations.
· When the need arises be willing and eager to “roll up your sleeves” to support the development function.
· Experience using donor/relationship management software to track donors, establish goals, and generate reports.
· Possess a strong donor-centric philosophy that permeates all donor interactions and activities.
· Have a deep understanding of philanthropy and the motivations and needs of donors.
· Possess expertise and successful experience in annual giving, special events, donor relations and communications, and community networking.
· Ability to manage priorities, analyze situations, and exercise sound judgment in determining appropriate courses of action.

Working at POMDR:
POMDR offers a competitive and comprehensive salary of $90,000 - $110,000 per year, an employee benefits package, and encourages strong work-life balance. We believe in supporting the whole person by providing:
· Up to $500 per month toward Health Insurance Premium
· Simple IRA Plan with 3% employer match
· 2 weeks paid vacation to start
· 9 paid holidays as well as 48 sick hours per year and mental health time

Work Environment and Location: This position is located at our offices in Pacific Grove, CA, and is an in-person Monday through Friday salaried position. We are open to accommodate a hybrid work schedule if absolutely necessary, with occasional needs to be able to travel into our offices and work in the evenings or weekends, related to events or other community activities.
