Laboratory Research Technician II

Location: On-site in South San Francisco, CA

Start: ASAP

Overview: The Cellular and Tissue Genomics department in gRED is seeking a highly talented and passionate Research Technician II for a cutting-edge project implementing and developing technologies for large-scale high-content genetic perturbation screens. The successful candidate will be in the lab, and execute advanced molecular biology and high-content screening experiments in single-cell biology and functional genomics. They will support large-scale perturbation data generation efforts to facilitate the development and application of computational algorithms and AI/ML models to decipher complex cellular circuits. An important part of the role will consist in communicating results and iterating on experimental design. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and concepts in both molecular biology, single-cell genomics, and functional genomics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute cell and molecular biology experiments in a laboratory setting.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, and generate figures for presentation and publication.
  • Perform various molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to PCR, qPCR, cloning, and Western blotting.
  • Maintain and culture mammalian cells, ensuring high standards of quality control.
  • Work with viral vector technologies, single-cell RNA sequencing, and CRISPR-based genome editing techniques (experience in these areas is preferred but not required).
  • Contribute to team-based projects and collaborate with colleagues to support ongoing research and technology development.
  • Communicate findings effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new experimental protocols and technologies.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and materials in an organized and efficient manner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology and mammalian tissue culture.
  • Strong knowledge of cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with viral vector technologies, CRISPR genome editing, or single-cell RNA sequencing is highly preferred, but not required.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and capable of working independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly present data and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about science and eager to continue learning in a fast-paced research environment.
