TITLE: Fiber Installation Technician Job Summary and Objectives To be responsible for installation and maintenance of customer services at the home/business. This position will also service and maintain main line and drop fiber to the home.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to: Outside Plant Manager RESPONSIBILITIES: Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cable and ethernet. Route fiber and/or cables from the outside to the inside of a home or business. Support the customer's audio and video technologies. Use Interpersonal skills for interaction with customers for installation requirements and issue resolution. Route fiber drop cable from mainline to home/business. Install telephone in homes and businesses and integrate into existing systems. Be able to work in inclement weather. Work with electronic maps and documents and maintain records of work performed. Operate company vehicles safely. Train customers on the use of internet, telephone, and television. Preserves confidentiality of company issues when relating to staff, customers, and general public. Supports the Bylaws, guidelines, policies and philosophies of the company at all times. Supports the Mission Statement and Core Values at all times. The Installation Technician shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objectives of the company. Internal Outside Plant Manager - To request and provide assistance as required; to confer on problems; to seek necessary approvals and to keep informed of departmental and company policies and procedures, and to discuss any unusual situations affecting the job. Fiber Optic Technicians - To work in conjunction with the Fiber Optic Technicians to get timely resolution of member's issues. GIS Mapping Technician -To turn in required information on installations performed to maintain the integrity of our electronic mapping system. Customer Service Department - Under supervision of Construction Manager, work with customer service on subscriber and landowner issues to ensure contractors are performing work on schedule and all issues assigned have resolution. Communicate with customer service on issue resolutions. To ensure continued access to private rights of way, all landowner issues must have resolution. To be a team player and maintain effective internal relationships to enhance information transfer and productivity. External Contractors - Oversees direction of assigned installation contractors working on the system at any given time. To request and provide assistance as required and to confer on problems as required to maintain efficient and effective systems. Subscribers - To support and assist subscribers to access the network. To maintain good relations in all contacts with the general public. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Body Movements - This position is rated at a Level 3.0 for PCP testing. Visual and Audio Acuity - Visual and audio acuity is essential function of this position. Travel - Frequent daytime travel across the entire service territory for installation inspection and subscriber and landowner issues. Infrequent overnight travel for meetings and training. Substance Abuse Testing - Must pass all random and mandatory testing. This position requires the ability to operate company vehicles safely. EDUCATION: High School or GED equivalent. Some college or post high school education preferred. EXPERIENCE: Strong computer skills Wire routing Communications with customers Background in home construction/ remodeling Experience with Fiber optic cable and Cat 5/6 Experience with home networking Must be able to route lines to required specifications and convey these specifications to installation contractors. Must have strong PC abilities including Microsoft Office and tablet operating skills. Must be able to operate and navigate electronic maps. WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office/field conditions. Some irregular hours may be required. Occasional travel may be required. After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required which will include drug testing.
