JOB SUMMARY:

The Packaging Specialist provides technical packaging expertise on cross functional project teams to develop and commercialize innovative and competitive packaging in support of the innovation pipeline, in compliance with Nestle standards and policies. Possesses understanding of the product properties, packaging components and equipment and quality aspects of the packaging design, to demonstrate mastery of existing formats including rigid, flexible, carton and corrugate. Actively seeks new packaging concepts which will lead to a competitive advantage and provides technical assistance to various internal departments to support business and manufacturing goals and Nestl sustainability commitments. Develops and maintains relationships with other Nestl divisions, both in R&D and Operations, as well as vendors and manufacturing locations. Ensures that packaging systems provide adequate protection and preservation of product quality, conform to marketing and marketplace requirements, and are optimized with respect to cost, labor, machinery, handling and transport. Follows and upholds all Food Safety, Food Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment policies as pertains to role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide effective technical packaging leadership to incorporate new packaging structural design, material, and equipment into Innovation & Renovation projects as aligned with the business expectations. Ensure packaging deliverables are met in support of the overall project schedule. Identify packaging risks or challenges and collaborate with team or manager to resolve.

* Develop packaging trial test protocols, coordinate and execute packaging trials, analyze data, and report results. Develop information for packaging specifications, control points, and testing requirements. Ensure packaging specifications are met and in compliance with Nestle requirements.

* Provide technical packaging support and packaging expertise to internal customers, including Marketing, Operations, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, and others. Lead assigned projects and contribute to the development or enhancement of relevant systems/ways of working to support I&R initiatives, Nestl sustainability commitments and provide technical assistance to manufacturing.

* Ensure adherence to all packaging standards. Comply with Nestl requirements (includes Sustainability, Packaging Safety), external standards, and local regulatory framework.

* Build and document knowledge about latest methods, trends and developments in packaging and integrate basic knowledge into the concept/project development. Participate in exploratory activities for packaging scouting to surface new packaging ideas. Build knowledge about latest trends and developments in packaging and offer new ideas/projects/methods to R&D Leadership to support replenishment of the Innovation & Renovation pipeline.

* Continuous improvement of technical skills and personal development. Provide coaching & mentorship to others to facilitate personal professional development.

* Effectively work cross-functionally throughout the organization and build an internal technical network.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Knowledge):

* B.S. Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or similar technical engineering degree. Position requires 5% travel.

* 3+ years of experience preferred in packaging or related field of work

* Experience with a broad range of primary packaging formats, materials (flexible films and rigid containers) and secondary packaging materials (labels, files, cartons, and corrugate), their interaction with packaging equipment and their performance.

* Knowledge of thermal processing of shelf-stable wet foods and the packaging development requirements to maintain product quality.

* Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, to support project and stakeholder management

* Creative, independent thinking ability, with an innovation and problem-solving focused mindset

* Experience in packaging specification development and management within enterprise systems is a plus.

* Experience with packaging prototyping and design is a plus
