Job Description

The Knolls Laboratory Regulated Materials group is looking for a Waste Engineer for their Knolls Regulated Waste Engineering organization. We are a dynamic group that emphasizes teamwork within our organization and with our production groups at the Laboratory. Our challenging work involves a combination of field inspections, waste management support/oversight, regulatory required report writing, regulatory interpretation and associated documentation, and oversight and administering of waste training programs.

This position includes development and/or following of programs or projects to ensure Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) compliance with operational, design, regulatory and Program requirements, and support for the work occurring at the Laboratory. Examples include performing technical work document reviews, engineering evaluations, or analyses to support assigned tasks. Work may include providing support, independent oversight and assessment of NNL, subcontractor, and vendor facility operations, material evaluations, design reviews, development of engineering methods, major site system and facility operations. Preparation and maintenance of records and reports will be included in this job to meet regulatory and Program requirements, as well as evaluating and assessing site performance, performance of surveillances, clarifying and implementing regulatory requirements, preparation of technical work procedures, and identifying improvements to existing processes. This position may also require leading or providing support for inspections and interfacing with outside regulatory agencies.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field.

Preferred Skills

Experience with chemical management and/or waste management related software.Experience with regulatory interpretations.

Pay Range

$62,000.00 - $94,900.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
