Interior Designer - Facilities

  • The Interior Designer's role will require a spirit of optimism and vision as one of the key members of the Design team.
  • The Interior Designer will prepare furniture and material specifications and coordinate the order process with the furniture dealer.
  • The Interior Designer will be responsible for maintaining project records via Unifier, the Facilities Project tracking system.
  • The Interior Designer will participate in Capital Projects interior design reviews where design consultants present schemes to the Interiors Team. The Interior Designer will be expected to provide critique and feedback to the consultant team based upon appropriateness of the selections in a healthcare setting, level of design and innovation, and compliance to the Guidelines.
  • The Interior Designer will review the consultant's architectural drawings at each phase for compliance to Guidelines for approved material and finish selections.
  • The Interior Designer may act as the furniture/finishes specifier on Capital Projects and Facilities Projects when a Design Consultant is not engaged due to the size and scope of the project.
  • The Interior Designer will perform design duties, including providing specifications of furniture and finishes for F.A.C.E. projects. The ID will also participate in the review and comment of the NYP Interior Guidelines as revisions are undertaken.
  • This position will require a physical presence at NYP locations including WCMC, CUMC and regional hospitals.

DIRECT PROJECTS - projects without an Architectural Consultant or construction or regulatory filings

  • Meets with the end user to ascertain the project scope.
  • Creates a program and budget with our furniture dealer, obtains sign off from the user as well as documents the project funding.
  • Selects applicable materials from the approved guidelines. The Corporate Director and/or Senior Project Manager will review and sign off on all new materials.
  • Creates a furniture plan with the furniture dealer. Creates furniture specifications and quotes and submits to the client who will be responsible for ordering and scheduling the furniture installation.
  • Creates finish plan.
  • Coordinates with OFO any trade work to be contracted or performed by the in-house trades.
  • The furniture dealer will oversee the furniture installation and the completion of the punch list and is required to resolve design issues that may arise.
  • Prepares PDF furniture packages, images, specification sheets of furniture and finishes, floor plan as required.

F.A.C.E. PROGRAM

  • Provides design layouts, materials, and finish specifications required by the F.A.C.E team for selected refurbishment projects.
  • Attends client meetings for programming and design development and through construction documents.
  • Assists in logistics in the creation of RFPs and bid leveling when a consultant is to be engaged.
  • Consolidates specifications in appropriate formats including Excel and CAD as required.

CAPITAL PROJECTS - projects with an Architectural/Interior Design consultant

  • Orients Facilities staff and outside design consultants to the NYP expectations around innovation and design, and the current version of the NYP Interior Guidelines.
  • Participates in design review of material selections during feasibility, schematic design, and design development for compliance with interior guidelines.
  • Reviews architectural contract documents during feasibility, schematic design, and design development for compliance with interior guidelines.

NYP Interior Guidelines

  • Assists with the maintenance of the NYP Interior Guidelines for architectural materials and finishes, architectural details, lighting, furniture as required for future versions of the documents.

Required Criteria

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Interior Design
  • 6 years of applicable experience (includes experience in interior design and implementation of interior layouts and finishes)
  • Experience in interior design and implementation of interior finishes and layouts
  • Submission and review of a design portfolio review and shop drawings

Preferred Criteria

  • LEED or CSI Certification
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft programs
  • Knowledge of Hospital interior design and furniture

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

Salary Range: $112,000-$135,000/Annual
