The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care, coordinates care delivery, and advocates for patients in a hospital or healthcare setting. The RN monitors patients' conditions, administers medications, and collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, administer medications, and perform treatments as prescribed.
- Assist with wound care, IV therapy, catheter placement, and other bedside procedures.
- Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to create individualized care plans.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide life-saving interventions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN).
- Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Experience: Prior Med-Surg experience preferred, but new graduates may be considered.
