Duties / ResponsibilitiesPrimary Essential Work Functions:
- Performs civil engineering computations, design assistance, field inspections, and layout.
- Safely assists a field party on construction, property location, or other survey work.
- Operates transit and level.
- Assists to view lines, angles, distances, and elevations.
- Locates boundaries and property lines, and records topography.
- Lays out construction surveys.
- Keeps field notes and makes sketches and computations.
- Assists survey party members in the correct use of survey equipment and instruments.
- Assists with plans and designs for public works projects.
- Makes calculations and estimates.
- Performs related office engineering work, including maintaining field maps, charts, and plans, survey books, and other engineering materials.
Communicates With:
- Internally - City engineers, community development, public works, and public information departments
- Externally - General public contractors, Blue Earth County, Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT)

- May perform engineering drafting.
- May prepare legal assessment forms and assist the public with information on assessments and property descriptions.
- May perform drafting and computing operations involved in the preparation of a wide variety of engineering drawings and plans, including legal descriptions, assessment maps, rights-of-way, State or Federal aid maps, plans for street, water or drainage projects, and the updating of City maps.

- Ability to work in confined spaces under normal outdoor temperature conditions as well as in-office environment.
