About The RoleTeam – Actuarial - LifeWorking Pattern - Hybrid – 2 days per week in the Vitality London Office. Full time, 37.5 hours per week. We are happy to discuss flexible working!What this role is all about:As the Experience and Assumptions Actuary at Vitality Life, you will be responsible for analysing actuarial experience and setting actuarial valuation assumptions. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our financial models and projections, as well as providing key insights for strategic decision-making.Key ActionsImplement the Actuarial Control Cycle:
  • Data Management:
    • Identify and define data considering a broad spectrum of sources (including external data).
    • Manipulate, adjust, and analyse the data.
    • Create or define complicated processes which require a technical understanding of the field.
  • Modelling:
    • Build and develop complicated models using Prophet.
    • Customise and enhance existing models.
    • Establish and justify assumptions used in models.
    • Identify, prioritise and quantify risks and opportunities and impact.
    • Maintain comprehensive model documentation, ensuring up to date and accessible for audit.
  • Reporting:
    • Use knowledge of the business and external environment to validate results.
    • Define the necessary monitoring and reporting on results and implications.
    • Show judgement in identifying and solving material business challenges.
Distil and Communicate Information to Stakeholders:
  • Proactively collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Translate technical information into concise, audience appropriate language.
  • Field complex questions, engage at a high level ensuring stakeholder understanding to make informed decisions.
Build and Transfer Skills and Knowledge:
  • Detailed knowledge and proficiency in area of work and industry.
  • Evaluation performance (self and team) to identify and address learning needs.
  • Actively coach others in the field of expertise.
  • Present and particulate in development sessions.
Manage Self:
  • Take full responsibility for work quality.
  • Maintain a can-do approach to find solutions and overcome obstacles. 
  • Question decisions to understand them.
  • Form effective working relationships with team and stakeholders.
  • Review outputs of colleagues in other teams.
What do you need to thrive?
  • Student or associate member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or equivalent. Or: Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of more advanced visualisation/dashboarding tools such as Power BI.
  • Experience of working within financial services, particularly in health or life insurance.
  • Knowledge of SQL, writing and editing complex queries to extract and process data, e.g., using SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Knowledge of Python and associated data processing libraries (e.g. pandas, numpy).
