Job Title: Administrator
About the Role: The successful individual will report to the Lead Council Tax and Utilities Administrator, supporting the business by assisting the housing and finance teams in assessing, recording, and investigating incoming council tax and utilities communications for properties.
Hours: 36 hours per week (core Monday to Friday)
Pay: £24,114
Contract: Temporary (Ongoing) Until March 2025
Location: Home Based, office available in Birmingham for any attendance
Key Accountabilities:
- Assist with record keeping of utility information and council tax files, and carry out general administrative duties within the team, as necessary.
- Act as the key contact for utility and council tax related matters, providing relevant advice to finance, housing, local authorities, and utility suppliers.
- Liaise with internal departments and external partners regarding invoices, payments, qualified deductions, and data updates in line with the utilities and council tax process.
- Ensure that relevant utility providers and local authority departments are updated when properties may become void to ensure additional cost is not incurred.
- Confirm the validity of invoices received by the business and manage any disputes with suppliers to completion.
- Identify where consumption appears to be inconsistent with the building type or where consumption has exceeded target levels.
- Manage communication between utility providers and internal stakeholders as required.
- Liaise with utility providers to resolve queries and raise disputes.
- Move utility supply to the preferred provider when a property becomes void and provide updates when the property is let or sold.
- Facilitate senior authorisation for bill payment where appropriate.
- Facilitate investigations or other appropriate actions where an unexpected or large bill is received.

- Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
- The ability to problem solve effectively and draw on subject matter experts to find a solution.
- Accurate and timely record keeping.
- The ability to effectively prioritise tasks.
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and exercise a high degree of initiative in resolving issues and developing recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and customers.
- Demonstrate an understanding and interest in the business and a demonstrable commitment to customer service.
Desirable:
- Housing sector experience.
- Experience of working in council tax and/or utility administration.
