Position: 3D Workshop Technician - Art & DesignSalary: £15-18 Per HourHours: 36 hours per weekLocation: Northwest London
Main Scope of the Post:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled 3D Workshop Technician to join our Art and Design Department. The successful candidate will support students and lecturers by preparing materials, demonstrating techniques, and maintaining equipment across all art and design areas. Additionally, the technician will supervise classes during Active Learning Facilitator sessions and cover for short unplanned teacher absences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Workshop Support: Assist teaching staff in the 3D workshops, manage resources, and ensure compliance with Health and Safety guidelines.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and service woodworking and metalworking machinery, including changing blades and sanding disks.
- Demonstrations: Assist with demonstrations of equipment and processes, including CAD/CAM machinery and software, and various woodworking, plastic, and metalworking machinery.
- Digital Manufacturing: Operate and maintain laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC routers. Prepare files using CAD software for digital manufacturing processes.
- Health and Safety: Conduct daily and weekly Health and Safety checks on extraction and machinery, maintain records, and ensure a safe working environment.
- Access Control: Manage access to the workshop and restricted machinery.
- Class Support: Provide assistance and support to lecturers and students during classes, supervise classes in the event of short unplanned teacher absences, and support student project work.
- Examinations: Assist in supporting and supervising examinations, including preparing work for external examiner visits.
- Inventory Management: Liaise with suppliers, manage stock levels of consumable materials, and maintain an inventory of all art and design equipment.
- Exhibitions and Displays: Assist in the design and construction of exhibitions and displays for department and College events.
- Publicity and Enrolment: Support the Client’s publicity programme and assist during enrolment and induction periods.
- General Duties: Cover for other support staff during absences, ensure safety measures are followed, and undertake any other duties as required by the Head of School.
