Through its collaboration with Vinci, Jacobs, and Breedon, BEAR Scotland manages two of Scotland’s four Trunk Road Maintenance Contracts and DBFO contracts like M80 Stepps-Haggs and A92 Dundee-Arbroath. The Opportunity

Prime Workforce, on behalf of BEAR Scotland, is seeking a talented Asset Designer to join their team. The role will focus on designing road and infrastructure assets, including roads, bridges, and other critical assets, to ensure their efficiency, durability, and sustainability. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that is directly shaping Scotland's infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

As an Asset Designer, you will:

  • Design Road Assets: Create detailed designs for road infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, and other transport assets, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to integrate designs with maintenance requirements, ensuring the designs are practical and effective.
  • Develop Technical Drawings: Produce technical drawings, specifications, and documentation for road assets, ensuring all designs are feasible and cost-effective.
  • Support Asset Management: Contribute to the ongoing management and maintenance of existing assets by ensuring that designs take into account future maintenance and operational requirements.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure all designs meet relevant safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Problem-Solve Design Issues: Address and resolve any design challenges that arise during the planning or construction phases.
  • Review and Improve Designs: Evaluate the effectiveness of completed projects and make recommendations for design improvements based on real-world performance.

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Qualifications: A degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in asset design.
  • Experience: Proven experience in designing road infrastructure assets, including roadways, bridges, and other transport-related structures.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in design software (such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar tools) and an understanding of engineering design principles.
  • Knowledge of Standards: Familiarity with relevant design standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements within road infrastructure design.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address design challenges effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal teams, clients, and contractors, ensuring clear understanding of design objectives.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing or supporting the delivery of design projects, with a focus on meeting deadlines and budgets.
