Permanent Vacancy – Assistant Accountant
Location: Aylesbury, HP21 (On-site)
Duration: Permanent
Salary: £27,937 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Pension contribution: £21%
Holiday Entitlement: 38 days including bank holidays
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger, assisting in the preparation of management accounts, and supporting the operation of strong financial controls. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth financial operation and involves working closely with various departments to provide essential financial support and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger and fixed asset register.
- Oversee sales and purchase ledgers as required.
- Process month-end journals, including accruals, internal transfers, and prepayments.
- Produce and maintain monthly account reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and year-end accounts.
- Collaborate with the enrolment team to ensure accurate fee capture and processing.
- Provide budget holders with essential budgetary reports and transactional information.
- Implement actions from internal or external audit reports to ensure strong financial control.
- Raise financial awareness across the College and provide system training.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Good working knowledge of finance department procedures.
- Full or part-qualified CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA, AAT, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of reconciliation techniques and financial reporting.
- Experience with month-end and year-end procedures.
- Proficiency in computerised finance systems and office software (Excel, Word).
