Assistant Finance Manager - AFR Consulting : Job Details

This family owned group of companies has an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious individual to take over from a retiring Finance Manager. As part of a carefully planned process the successful candidate will receive training on every aspect of the role with full support from the MD and rest of the team. This is therefore a unique career opportunity for someone with a good grounding in accounts to develop into a role involving full responsibility for the finance department.

Operating in the engineering and maintenance sector this business has over 1000 customers generating a high volume of transactions. They have a manufacturing ERP system in place and are in the process of implementing SAGE. A key part of the role will involve supporting the ongoing development of systems and processes, moving away from manual processing and automating where necessary. The MD is keen to extract more analysis of customer behaviour and profitability so they can implement strategies to drive revenue, profitability and further growth. This is an exciting time to join the company and play a major role in their development. The main responsibilities of this position will ultimately be:

• Preparing monthly and quarterly accounts• Weekly and monthly cashflow forecasting• Reviewing performance against forecast• Analysing costs, reporting sales and product margins• Stock control and stock valuation• VAT returns and reviewing payroll• Managing cash and making payments• Preparation of annual accounts• Utilities contracts, insurance renewals etc• Liaising with bank, accountants, invoice finance

The ideal candidate profile for this vacancy would be someone already with a good few years of experience as an Assistant Accountant / Management Accountant who is ready for a step up. The role will involve close mentoring by the incumbent Finance Manager who is keen to leave a legacy of a well organised finance function that adds value. As part of this role the successful candidate will work closely with and eventually manage an Accounts Assistant who already has a good all round knowledge of the business and is happy to stay at this level.
