Become a Assistant Financial Accountant
The Assistant Financial Accountant is a key role supporting the Senior Financial Reporting Manager in developing, streamlining, documenting and embedding updated financial processes and control to eliminate & mitigate process risk. Your main duties will also include the provision of quality supporting information through month end to facilitate effective decision making, as well as playing a key role in statutory audit process.
You will be a key member of the financial reporting team to include
- Review of financial data
- Statutory and external reporting
- Month end activities
- Improving processes, policies and controls to ensure compliance and deliver maximum value to The Works.
Through accurate and timely financial reporting, you support the business to make informed decisions to support its purpose of inspiring reading, learning, creativity and play, whilst enabling a range of stakeholders including investors to understand the performance of the Group.
Your Mission
- Ensuring timely and accurate delivery of financial reporting
- Take ownership of the property and capex balance sheet and related P&L lines. To be responsible for maintaining the Fixed Asset register for the Group including all property, plant and equipment. Including systems that allow the property assets to be reported at cost or valuation and all component accounting entries to be recorded accurately.
- Work with the financial processing team to gain a better understanding of property related costs, such as utilities, providing suggestions for improvements to drive cost efficiencies and controls.
- Delivery of month end process including posting of journals and completion of balance sheet reconciliations
- Analysis of monthly reports providing variance analysis; developing a close working relationship with the commercial finance team
- Helping to prepare interim and annual financial accounts and support for the year end audit process
- Supporting in the provision of financial analysis and interpreting information to make recommendations to management
- Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and reforecasts
- Seeking to make improvements to processes.
- Provide support for the wider financial reporting team as required
Skills/Behaviours That Will Set You Apart
Part Qualified Accountant
- Experience of working in a financial reporting team
- Experience of capex and property balance sheet topics desirable
- Retail experience desirable
