Assistant Logistics Manager

A leading manufacturing company is seeking a dedicated and experienced Logistics Manager to oversee all aspects of day-to-day transport operations. This pivotal role ensures the efficient import and distribution of products, working closely with warehouse leadership and third-party logistics providers (3PLs). Day-to-Day of the Role:
- Oversee UK inbound volume planning and coordination, ensuring maximum vehicle utilisation and cost-effectiveness while achieving company service targets.
- Organise the import and export of products, liaising with agents, carriers, and shipping lines to comply with Customs and Excise requirements.
- Manage day-to-day operations with outside haulage contractors and forwarders.
- Monitor and review subcontractors’ service performance to identify potential improvements.
- Maintain and develop good inter-departmental relations by liaising closely with Warehouse, Sales, and Commercial teams.
- Manage, develop, and coach the logistics team to achieve business targets and develop strategic succession plans.
- Prepare monthly KPI reports for UK outbound deliveries and conduct monthly reviews with key stakeholders.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and develop effective solutions in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, promoting continuous improvement within the department.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in a senior logistics planning role, including international transport.
- Proven ability to manage teams within a matrix organisation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, highly organised, and self-motivated.
- Strong numeracy skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with integrated transport management systems.
- Demonstrated history of continuous improvement in processes and system utilisation.
- Ability to make decisions in a high-pressure environment.
