A fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Planner to join our experienced Development team at Vistry South East Midlands, based in office in Enderby, Leicester. As our Assistant Planner, you will be trained and mentored by our Development Planning Manager and supported by the wider team to progress a career in town planning and development.

This person will assist the Development Planning Manager on all planning related matters within the regional business; assessing the planning potential of prospective sites for our land team, designing and planning residential developments, managing the planning process to targeted objectives and help to create Places People Love.

    • Achieved a BSc/BA in a Planning or Urban Design course (or similar).
    • Relevant experience in the industry.
  • More about the Assistant Planner role...
    • Under the guidance of the Development Planning Manager, manage and positively contribute to the preparation of layouts and planning applications for all sites.
    • Organise, programme and positively influence project consultant design teams, ensuring efficient and quality projects are designed, within tight timescales.
    • Comply with the Vistry “Life of Site” process and follow the planning procedures therein.    
    • Build excellent long-term relationships within the team, regional business, consultants and local authorities.
    • Reviewing, understanding, interpreting and commenting on various design information and reports to create a co-ordinated, comprehensive and robust planning application.
    • Basic understanding of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and how this is calculated.
    • Understand S106 agreements and produce a tracker to ensure obligations are met.
    • Assist in discussions and with all relevant bodies, in conjunction with external project teams, and engage with the public and relevant stakeholders.
    • Being able to review/understand relevant local authority policies and nationally described space standard (NDSS) requirements.
    • Assist in the preparation of planning appraisals for new land opportunities.
    • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Land & Development Department in conjunction with the other team members.
    • Prepare design and planning briefs and commission works being undertaken by external consultants in the preparation of various types of planning applications. Complete formal appointment documents.
    • Raising purchase orders and managing the planning budget for each project.
    • Assist in providing an effective handover to the regional business at various stages of planning to ensure any key matters are passed onto the relevant teams.
    • Awareness of housebuilder requirements including our partnerships business model, standard house types, design principles and efficient plotting densities.
    • Ensure we comply with Company’s health and safety commitments and attend all relevant training.
