WSCC operate a range of children's homes which provide a diverse range of services to some of the most vulnerable and 'at risk' children in the County, ranging in age from 7 to 18 years. The children looked after within our homes present varying levels of risk to themselves and others.

The Opportunity

Salary: £43,421 - £46,464 per annum including weekend working allowance. (salary £41,418-£44,428 plus weekend working allowance £2,003 - £2,036, Sleep-in allowance £37.07 per night).

Working Pattern: Full Time (37 Hours)Contract: PermanentLocation: This position will be based in a Residential Children's Home in the Worthing area, with the expectation to provide cover in another Residential Home, Blue Cove within Worthing, as and when required.

As an Assistant Manager, you will work collaboratively with the Registered Manager and all stakeholders to assist with delivery of ambitious outcomes for children, striving for continuous improvement in their social, educational and health development.

You will have key managerial areas of responsibility, this includes line management of a team of staff, ensuring that they provide the highest standard of care to children and deputising in the absence of the registered manager, providing confidential support and assist the registered manager in the day-to-day management of the home.

Experience and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence others and negotiate positive outcomes.
  • Effective people management skills and the ability to provide support and direction to individuals and teams.
  • Ability to challenge existing practices and identify innovative solutions within statutory requirements.
  • Ability to effectively manage the time and priorities of self and others
  • Ability to interpret and act on complex information and to produce high quality documents with limited guidance.
  • Ability to use IT software to a professional standard for general office duties.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Significant experience of dealing with a diverse range of complex situations while prioritising the wellbeing of children.
  • Significant level of experience within a position relevant to the residential care of children
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent qualification.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or equivalent. (If this qualification is not held, the individual must have achieved this within 3 years of appointment).
  • An awareness of innovative theoretical practices within a residential setting.
  • Experience of working within internal policies and procedures and statutory responsibilities e.g. Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Social Care Inspection Framework.
  • Experience of delivering personalised services to children whilst understanding the issues affecting their behaviour and presentation.
