Semi Senior Accountant & Auditor

Opportunity to join a well-established, growing and innovative business and advisory firm based in Camberley who provide advice and accounting solutions to help entrepreneurial and high growth businesses. Supporting the Manager in one of our Business Services PODs, you will be responsible for all aspects of work for a portfolio of clients for whom we provide a variety of services. This role is essential to meeting our clients’ evolving requirements, delivering long term sustainable value to businesses by providing a range of solutions and advice such as statutory accounts, audit, accounting and VAT advice, and self-assessment corporate and personal tax returns. The role is office based and working in a friendly team, as well as some independent tasks, and will be great for a driven, ambitious and versatile individual who is looking for their next challenge.

Qualifications and Systems Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of Outlook/Microsoft packages.
  • Highly IT literate. Must have worked with a variety of accounting software packages, be able to adapt quickly to new software, proficient in short cuts and navigating between screens and platforms whilst maintaining an exceptionally high degree of accuracy.
  • Advanced Excel skills. Must be confident in using VLOOKUP, SUMIF and SUMIFS.
  • ACA or ACCA recently or nearly qualified.

Relevant Experience:

  • Working in a busy, fast paced environment.
  • Proficient in the preparation of statutory accounts, audit, VAT returns, payroll, and personal, partnership & corporation tax returns. Able to work on some more complex cases with guidance/support.
  • Experience working on audits for a variety of clients of different sizes and in varying sectors, with an understanding of auditing techniques and objectives. Possibly able to run more simple audits.
  • Previous experience working in public practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing statutory accounts, auditing, VAT returns, payroll, corporation tax and personal tax returns, and reviewing some simple ones.
  • Ensure the year end files are complete with back up schedules to support balance sheet figures.
  • Ensuring consistent quality over all work.
  • Developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Supervising, managing, motivating and training junior staff.
  • Following existing systems, updating them, and developing new ones as appropriate.
  • Ensuring budgets are met.
  • Reviewing VAT returns, understanding VAT requirements, concepts and calculations.
  • Ad hoc advisory services.

Analytical and Judgemental Skills:

  • To handle client enquiries on a day to day basis and know when to inform the manager to ensure he is kept fully up to date.
  • To formulate reasoned views and recommendations, tempering technical knowledge with commercialism to address issues, seeking consultation where required. Good practical judgement.

Communication Skills:

  • To speak with confidence in all client handling situations, and when liaising with our clients to resolve simple queries.
  • To write clear, concise emails.
  • Clearly presented working papers.
  • To identify key issues from file reviews and discussions.

  • Sound analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills and be able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Resourceful.
  • Demonstrate scepticism. Able to think around situations and identify potential issues rather than accepting the status quo.
