Job Title: Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant

Location: Takeley

Salary: £30,000 per annum

Reporting to: Director

About the Client:

Our client is a reputable and growing construction company based in Takeley, dedicated to delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. Currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join the team and manage the financial operations of our business.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Process invoices, purchase orders, and payments, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Manage payroll for staff and contractors, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.

Reconciliations:

  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and supplier accounts regularly.
  • Ensure accurate end-of-month and year-end reconciliations.

Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to support decision-making.

VAT and Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC regulations.
  • Liaise with accountants for year-end financial submissions and audits.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain and organize financial documents and records, both digitally and physically.
  • Support the team with ad hoc administrative tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping, ideally within the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with construction-specific financial processes, such as CIS (Construction Industry Scheme), is advantageous.
  • AAT qualification or equivalent is preferred but not essential with relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Sage accounting software.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.

Salary : 27000 - 30000
