We're looking for a Casual Library Assistant to be a part of our close-knit library service!

Our libraries deliver essential community-based support, promoting the benefits of reading for everyone, offering a quality, trusted information service, bridging digital inclusion through supporting safe access to online resources, and curating a programme of events and activities that meet the needs of targeted audiences.

The Opportunity

Salary: £13.95 to £14.18 per hour (includes annual leave entitlement)

Contract Type: Casual

Location: Horsham Library, Lower Tanbridge Way, Horsham, RH12 1PJ

Interview Date: Tuesday 31 January 2025

At WSCC, we promote flexible working, and a casual contract is a perfect fit for that! What is a casual contract? A casual contract allows us, as the employer, to offer work as and when it becomes available. It does not always guarantee hours, so you are given the option to accept or deny assignments as determined by us.

Horsham is a busy, friendly library in a spacious building on two floors, located in the town centre close to shops and services.

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, and resourceful individual, with excellent digital skills.

You will be the go-to person for customers at the library, providing high quality assistance with their questions and guiding them to other services as needed.

It's not just about the books! We are looking for someone who understands the power of community and the importance of fostering a love for reading in people of all ages. You will have the opportunity to participate in exciting library programmes such as Knit and Natter and Rhyme Time.

Customer service is at the forefront of the library service, as it plays an important role in creating a vibrant and dynamic workplace. It requires flexibility, creativity, and initiative from those who work there. This could mean helping a customer log-on to the library Wi-Fi or a reading recommendation.

The variety of our work means that no two days are the same. We get huge job satisfaction from helping everyone who comes through our doors, and you could too!
