£24,441 to £26,591 per annum

37 hours per week Permanent contractColeford

We are seeking a reliable and flexible individual with previous experience in grounds maintenance preferably within a similar role, to join our Cemetery Service.  Supporting within a small team to maintain the high standards of the grounds at Mile End and Yew Tree Break Cemeteries. 

About the role…

You will assist with duties supporting the service delivery and management of both Cemeteries.  Maintaining both sites in all weather conditions to a high standard, including but not limited to, grass cutting, excavation work, hedge works, minor tree work, litter picking, general grounds and building maintenance. Liaise and instruct contractors when required on site under the supervision of the Cemetery Manager. Prepare and excavate graves by hand and mechanical means, including necessary shoring and backfilling.

You will need…

  • Experience using both hand and mechanical equipment relating to grounds maintenance
  • Ability to work unsupervised using own initiative
  • To possess strong interpersonal skills such as tact, diplomacy, sensitivity and compassion
  • To be physically able to undertake all duties associated with the post
  • Previous grounds maintenance operations experience
  • An understanding of basic health & safety
  • Strong communication skills
  • To be Proactive and self-motivated
  • To have good time management
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Data Protection

Desirable

  • Understanding of cemetery - crematorium practices
  • CPCS qualification to enable operation of mini digger (training can be given)
  • Full clean driving licence

Special Conditions…

  • Use of a car for work purposes
  • You will be expected to work reasonable additional hours in line with the needs of the service
