Principal Investigative Lawyer

12-month Fixed-term Contract

Starting salary of £58,083 per annum + access to civil service pension scheme

Hybrid Working in London

A dynamic London based Central Government body is looking for multiple lawyers to join their team on a 12 month fixed-term contract. As an integrated member of the team, you will assist by providing accurate and effective legal advice and support on cases concerning top tier fraud, bribery and corruption.

As a Principal Investigative Lawyer, you will help shape case strategy and outcomes, as well as actively participate in the investigation by managing search warrants, attending executive searches, and interviewing witnesses. You will also enhance your technical skills by working with digital evidence.

Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisor informing case strategy: Providing legal advice to the team to help inform and set the investigative strategy of the case.
  • Investigation: Working as part of a team comprising investigators, accountants, and digital specialists and utilising the full range of investigative tools, actively participating in case investigations including interviews, drafting witness statements and attending searches.
  • Legal Advisor shaping case outcomes: Providing legal advice on potential case outcomes including charging, prosecution and Deferred Prosecution Agreements (DPA's). Acting as the designated Prosecutor where necessary.
  • Leadership/contribution to the wider business: Supervision of document reviewers and external counsel, monitoring quality of work and productivity. Visibly promoting values and representing the organisation positively through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential and desirable criteria:

Essential:

  • Candidates must be UK-qualified Lawyers
  • Candidates must be a barrister authorised by the Bar Council to practice in England and Wales OR a solicitor, admitted by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority and authorised to practice in England and Wales or Northern Ireland
  • Strong experience in complex civil AND/OR criminal fraud, bribery and corruption litigation
  • Demonstrable experience working in a complex, multi-strand legal or investigative environment
  • Experience in managing large quantities of data using software tools and databases

Desirable:

  • Written and oral advocacy in courts and/or tribunals
  • Experience participating in or advising on disclosure under the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996
