About the Role:

As the Clerk to Governors, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Governing Body to operate efficiently and effectively. Your role is pivotal in ensuring that governance runs smoothly, meeting statutory requirements and contributing to the continued success of our school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Support: Provide full clerking services to the Governing Body, ensuring the efficient organisation of meetings, timely distribution of agendas, and accurate minute-taking.
  • Liaison & Communication: Liaise with the Chair of Governors, Headteacher, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure that the business of the Governing Body is well-coordinated and that actions are followed up.
  • Minute Taking: Accurately record and produce minutes for all governors’ meetings, ensuring that key decisions, actions, and challenges are clearly documented.
  • Governance Advice: Provide guidance to the Governing Body on legal, procedural, and compliance matters, ensuring all decisions are made in line with statutory requirements.
  • Policy Management: Oversee the maintenance of policies and procedures relating to governance, ensuring they are regularly updated and compliant with legal standards.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including membership, terms of office, and meeting attendance of governors.
  • Compliance: Ensure the Governing Body’s compliance with statutory duties, such as the submission of the Governors’ Annual Report and Declarations of Interests.
  • Professional Development: Keep abreast of relevant training, guidance, and changes to educational legislation to advise and support governors in their decision-making processes.

Who You Will Liaise With:

As Clerk to Governors, you will work closely with:

  • The Chair of Governors to plan and set agendas for meetings.
  • The Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the strategic direction of the school is aligned with governance priorities.
  • Other governors, staff, and external bodies, including the Local Authority and relevant education bodies, to provide governance support and guidance.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders and provide clear, concise advice.
  • Experience in minute-taking and the production of official documents is highly desirable.
  • A solid understanding of school governance or a willingness to undertake training in this area.
  • Familiarity with education legislation, statutory guidance, and the functioning of a Governing Body is an advantage but not essential, as training will be provided.
  • Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office and document management systems.
